This EP does exactly what it says on the tin. This is twee, this is love and this is pop and then some.
Six songs advertised as lovingly recorded in Simon from the band’s mum’s living room, how much more heart-warming and cute can you get?
Apart from these factors, We See Lights – a musical collective based in Edinburgh, have evidently poured their hearts and souls into this EP and seem to have included absolutely everything that defines love to them.
The band tell detailed stories in their tracks that are similar in structure to stories from other bands such as Belle and Sebastian. You really feel for the protagonist in the track “Scots Poetry” and the story of getting to know another person in that strange period of establishing a relationship “Hope You Like The Smiths.” This is feel good Scottish pop at its best.
This is a collection of joyous songs, with an array of instruments such as acoustic guitar, fiddle, banjo, glockenspiel and xylophone, to create music worthy of Mumford and Sons.
While some may find the EP perhaps a tad mawkish for them, it will win over enough melted hearts.
If you’re a fan of all things folk and are trying to imagine a sound a cross between Mumford and Frightened Rabbit then you’re kind of there with We See Lights. This EP is pure joy.
