We’re chuffed, honoured and slightly smug in bringing you the video premiere for ‘You Show Me Ways’, the latest single from M. John Henry. Out on Friday 6th June, it’s the latest taster of the forthcoming solo album from the former De Rosa frontman, also known for his work with WHIN, Jewel Scheme, and as one half of Henry & Fleetwood. ‘Strange Is The Way’ will be with us on June 20th.
To the single, which follows ‘Heart Of Coal‘ as a taster for the 10-track long-player. ‘You Show Me Ways‘ is, as Martin puts it, “a song I wrote while I was compiling old family photographs for my Dad’s 70th birthday. There’s a lot of looking back and forward in the lyrics. I was thinking about how photographs used to fade away.”
The album follows, on Gargleblast Records, on June 20th, pressed in translucent orange vinyl as well as a limited CD and the usual digital formats, with artwork by Henry alongside Kris Boyle, who also made the video. The album was mixed and mastered by Robert Dallas Gray (ex-Life Without Buildings guitarist) and you can pre-order it now.
“In recent years I’ve made a lot of diverse music in collaboration with others,” Henry says. “With this record I wanted to go it alone and make something simple that embraced the classic folk and rock LPs I grew up with while remaining informal and honest to my voice and playing.
“The words have all sorts going on,” he adds, “from domestic observation to imaginings of being taken to the Land of Fae”.
If you can’t wait to hear the album – available to pre-order now – then join the Bandcamp listening party on the evening before its release, June 19th.
