Scottish indie dream team double up once again as Paul Vickers and The Leg trail a new album, their fifth, ‘Winter At Butterfly Lake’ – due out 27th June 2025 on PX4M.
It’s the fifth time the two acts have collaborated together for a full-length release. Vickers, formerly frontman of Borders-based legends Dawn of The Replicants, first hooked up with The Leg for 2008’s ‘Tropical Favourites’ before delivering three more albums over the next couple of decades – sporadic releases, as Vickers, in his Mr. Twonkey guise, became a regular and award-winning face at Edinburgh’s Festival Fringe.
The Leg – who have put out four full-length efforts under their own name – are themselves a supergroup of sorts given that two members of Edinburgh should-have-beens Khaya – singer/guitarist Dan Mutch and bassist John Mackie – are joined by Alan Scurlock, drummer in St Jude’s Infirmary, plus guitarist James Metcalfe.
And of course, one Pete Harvey – whose time as cellist in Khaya has led to his being one of the most in-demand producers and arrangers, with ‘Winter At Butterfly Lake’ unsurprisingly being recorded at his Perthshire Pumpkinfield studio along with a five-piece string ensemble.
The ten-tracks are co-written by Mutch and Vickers, the latter’s surreal lyricism taking in references to electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire, Charles Dickens’ novel, David Copperfield, and a dog psychiatrist.
The album – available on cassette, limited edition picture disc vinyl, and download – will be preceded by single ‘Contents of The Earth’ on May 7th.
