This is an incredibly sexy album, which carries you along in its swing, daring you to be as outrageous as it thinks it is. This is also a toned and muscular album which knows its place, knows its purpose and dares you then to join it. There’s a real cinematic quality at work here – perhaps understandable, when you consider how much of UNKLE’s music has been used in the movies. Close your eyes here and you could be in the middle of a modern-day film noir, protecting the girl, gun in hand.
Where Did the Night Fall has a very rhythmic quality which draws you right in to its dark, violently beating heart through a booming kick drum and pulsating, ominous keyboard passages. This creates an exciting, menacing atmosphere. On tracks such as ‘Caged Bird’, artists such as Katrina Ford add light and shade to the mix; bringing a tinge of hope and romance to the proceedings.
The album gels beautifully with this mix of moods and meanings and sweeps you along in its wake, as moods go together, songs segue into each other and the full spectrum of emotions is served.
