Unforeseen Prophecy have come blasting out of The Valleys citing Machine Head, Metallica and Lacuna Coil as influences amongst others. This may well be the case, but what they really seem to feed off is their own senses of frustration, at the way the world is going. They can’t change it, they know this well, but, going by the razor-sharp riffage and mellifluous melodies on display here, they’re damned well going to ram the crash barriers anyway.
“Melodic riffs and vocals” are two skills the band proudly boasts of and both are on ample display here. “The Placebo Effect”, in particular, is full of aggression and malevolence. There is also something beautiful about the way Paul Well’s and Charis Pattison’s vocals blend here. Apart, they sound quite impressive but, together, they have a robustness, for and confidence which is quite breathtaking.
