Almost-local band Tempe were handed the responsibility of kicking things off for returning heroes Tribes.
Cheered on by friends and family and after prompting the crowd to move forward and get involved, they quickly built up a good atmosphere in the room, ready for the headliners.
In 2013, having reached the pinnacle of any band’s career by getting their name on the infamous steps at King Tuts, Tribes split up, possibly deciding there was nothing left to achieve with a career in music.
Luckily for all concerned they reformed in 2021 and have been performing across the UK. Lead singer Johnny Lloyd explained they “were done with the big label thing” and wanted to build support from smaller, more intimate gigs.
Their plan seems to be working as there were few people in a crowded room who were not singing along with most of the set – at times the band seeming genuinely shocked to the point of being emotional about how engaged the crowd were. High fives and band selfies were flying around with special kudos given to the fan wearing the original decade-old band t-shirt.
As well as the hits from 2011 album ‘Baby’ and 2013’s ‘Wish To Scream’, Tribes also played two brand new songs and hinted about an announcement to be made on Wednesday (22nd June) before straight up telling everyone they were to announce a new album, amongst other things. Judging by the new material’s reception, fans of Tribes who have been missing out for almost 10 years now have a lot to look forward to – as do the band themselves.
