There is a hazy summer warmth to Linnea Jonsson’s voice, acting as the lynch pin on which Those Dancing Days’ songs so perfectly hang. She has a distinctive lilt with an almost smoky maturity to it, when in fact she – and her four Swedish band-mates – are still at school. They tour, record and write during school holidays; making catchy, loveable pop – like a Swedish Girls Aloud, in the best possible way.
Their songs are alive with loose keyboards, thudding drums, fuzzy guitars and lyrics that tip-toe between happy and heartbreaking in the skip of a beat. There is little to choose between ‘Run Run’ and b-side ‘Home Sweet Home’; each different, yet similarly perfect. The former is a punchy eye-of-the-tiger style tune with an “I don’t care, I am free” chant, whereas ‘Home Sweet Home’ is a little gentler, with creaky music-box synth. Both are genuinely affecting and utterly addictive. In short, Those Dancing Days exude an effortless brilliance that just is.
