The one thing you don’t expect a record like this to start with is a beautiful, descending piano introduction. Nothing fancy, just a few simple keys, to set a beautiful mood.
You can then get to grips with some fantastic visual imagery, in songs such as ‘Heaven Alive’. This gets quite kinky and exciting at times, as you imagine you’re right in there, amongst it all.
However, this is given levity throughout by echoes of T Rex – especially in the ringing and grungy guitar lines. You are, therefore, left in no doubt that this is a pop album first and foremost.
This is a very tight album, where the riffs are razor-sharp, the piano is used fully and firmly and the vocalist knows when to punch and when to swoon. It’s a very tight package.
