If you thought you knew the music of David Gedge’s combo – jangly, 100-mph guitars, lovelorn lyrics – think again.
The Leeds indiepop veterans are branching out with this 20-track album, each with an accompanying video. And indeed, you’d not recognise them from the opening four tunes – an almost ambient piece, some choral harmonies, some almost classical piano and strings. Then, ‘Two Bridges’ kicks off and it’s unmistakable Weddoes – frantic, stop-start and distorted guitars.
From then on, in the main, it’s a series of relationship breakups set to a frantic alt.pop backing. But with these diverse styles new styles alongside the more traditional Wedding Present sounds there’s truly something for everyone here.
