These two tracks – from the ‘It Won/t Be Like This All the Time’ writing sessions but not fitting onto the album – are further proof of The Sad’s greatness.
‘Rats’ is another rocking trembler, heavy on guitar, synths and of course James’ plangent and pleading voice…
‘Public Housing’ is a feedback-drenched belter with some incredible bass, God the rush of energy every time this lot do anything is incredible… There are further weird melodic and chord dissonances which only The Sad seem to be able to do in 2019, some banging piano, thrashing drums and then it is all over.
Talk about energy rush – never has a band sounded more vital, more committed to their art and more ear-shreddingly of the moment – an excellent end to the year for the Sad.
