Another summer (!), another glut of pop hopefuls, laying down the latest sound… daddio etc…
The Stowaways are an indie guitar/synth band who sound a bit like a lot of people – that’s not necessarily always a bad thing if you are talented, good looking and have good management, so good luck to them, they could well chart although not seen their names on any festival billings so far.
The single (a remix is the first track, not sure who did it – themselves I think) is melodic, quite punchy, a bit Two Door Cinema Club, but that’s alright, I like them, they help the time pass before I die…
It has a good sound to it, mid tempo verses and a mental chorus which should get the crowds going, some astute drumming and guitar licks… though with the remix quite over-produced – pushing for that radio play. Subject matter doesn’t really matter, something about the “way I feel tonight”, it’s not exactly Leonard Cohen, but it could get picked up for a washing powder advert and go global – oh dear, cynical in July, not a good look Betty, but the wise woman speaks the truth, mark my words.
The original version, track two, is more reflective, bassy and profound, so that’s ok too.
