I was really surprised when researching this band to see a photo of Dave Grohl wearing a The Sounds t-shirt. Why so surprised I hear you ask? Only because Something To Die For sounds like it has been created by a German power pop-rock band in the 1980s for the Eurovsion song contest. Synths? Check. Mullet? Check. Sleeveless shirt and tight jeans? Check. However despite not liking Something To Die For, it is incredibly catchy upbeat dance pop and you even feel yourself wanting to sing along before dragging yourself and slapping yourself about the face and saying NO don’t do it! The Sounds have been around since 1999 and supported acts such as The Strokes, Foo Fighters and Justice and describe themselves as” new wave”, with this track from their latest “party album of dark dance pop”. If you are into the pop-tart sound of the likes of Lady Gaga merged with Depeche Mode and Bon Jovi you might find this a great Euro teaser… and any band fronted by Blender Magazine’s “Hottest Woman in Rock,” Maja Ivarsson is always going to be onto a winner.
