Opener ‘Roaring Round The House’ starts us off in a gentle fashion, with pleasing patterns and soft harmonies, colliding softly like pillows of air. ‘If I Hear You Talk Apostrophes Again’ threatens to kick off with a tense bass line and grizzly vocals, but never strays far outside of the comfort zone, maintaining that edge, but never getting in your face.
‘Cocksure Boys’ utilises tuned percussion, tasteful and restraint drums and ethereal vocals to create a swirling, gliding track that straddles somewhere between shoegaze and folk, although the track does dissolve into the background a little as it goes on. Assured arena rock greets us on the next track ‘Half Lived’, a rousing track that takes us up a gear.
‘Shot Out A Cannon’ is a gorgeous, soft track once again – but it’s also the longest on this EP. The ensemble melds together so well, that each instrument, excluding the vocal, seem like cracks in stone – like the tiniest stitching on a beautiful tapestry. As a result the closer ‘There Is No One Left To Thank’ feels out of place, like a patch hastily stuck on.
