Hailing from Brighton, it looks as if Jimmy left more than his virginity in that Quadrophenia alleyway. A rich tradition of 60s inspired indie stems from the South coast, with a series of bands wearing target badges and penning odes to their Vespa. Spikey mod pop abounds on this debut release by The Rivers, at barely two minutes long it’s a thrilling skip through the continent mapped out by Paul Weller and his ilk. Sure, it’s not exactly original, but done with this much panache and rosy-cheeked charisma ‘She Gives It Around’ is difficult to resist. There may be many rivers to cross, but hopefully this one won’t pass you by.
