‘Omen’ sets the confrontational, single-minded agenda for The Prodigy’s new album beautifully, just as ‘Firestarter’ and ‘Breathe’ did for their last high watermark, 1997’s The Fat Of The Land album.Sparkly electronics and raging monologues fire themselves out at you here, catching you between the eyes and making sure you remember them well and long.
This is a record that has obviously been made for its own sake. All present on it are heard to be giving their all and every minute resonates with pure, unbridled joy. The sound is very full, fat and hard, calling to mind such past Prodigy classics as ‘Breathe’ and ‘Poison’. It’ll have your heart pounding and your mind racing, all within the same four minutes of sound.
It really hits you between the eyes and doesn’t overstay its welcome – a cardinal sin committed by so many singles and albums these day. With its raw riffs and sparkly keyboard parts, it also shows a much rockier side to The Prodigy. This, in turn, bodes well for their upcoming live shows and, with such venom and fire, reminds you why you liked them in the first place.
