Out now, this is the 4th single from the forthcoming Mickey 9s album and it’s another absolute banger – (ok so BM may be feeling a bit frisky after seeing ‘Poor Things’ last night, phew!) this is the sound of a finely honed funk machine showing everyone else in the field exactly how it should be done. Referencing everything from ’70s disco (Average White Band among others, to put a Scottish lineage on it) to noughties indie (The Rapture, LCD etc) the overall vibe is inclusive humanity and getting together (in whatever way floats your boat!).
The processed beats are infectious, suggestive (“under the covers”, missus!) and the subtle backing vocals add to this track – but the main thing here is mastery of songwriting and guys who obviously enjoy playing together – there is space during the verses, then the whole thing comes together in the choruses… “drown me in love” – who could argue with that, and it’s a great start to the year when the MNs will be doing indoor and outdoor venues, for your pleasure!
(only one last thing, (BM does Columbo), don’t do this sort of stuff underwater kids, unless under supervision)
