There is a spectral feel to Leaf Library’s debut, with spaced-out soundscapes that meander along at their own pace. The whispered ruminations of main vocalist Kate Gibson speak of meteorology, the seasons and the sea. Indeed, the outdoors are apparently a major influence for the London-based band, with visits to Suffolk and the Lake District inspiring much of the music.
Leaf Library aren’t afraid to leave a lot of space in their songs and there is a delicate quality to many of the arrangements, featuring shimmering guitars, woozy synths and even horns. Unfortunately ‘Daylight Versions’ does feel a bit pedestrian at times, but if you’re in the mood for listening to something low-key and mellow you could do a lot worse.
