Primitive recordings though they are, there is so much humour in these tracks, and although the cultural references are way out of date (and often were at the time..) the subject matters and emotions are usually spot on.
There are 20 tracks here, starting with ‘What’s The Point Of Getting Up?’ with references to daytime TV, Frosties and Job Centres… So the Scottish son of ‘Back in the DHSS’ revisited and with more references, to Tricia, sports stripe socks all in a strumming, almost Velvet Underground stylee…
This lot did not really care about whether local references are cool or not, and this album is a whole lot of fun…
Coming to this in 2021, there are of course a lot of deja vu moments, but the Hector Collectors catalogue those years of mucked up arrangements, crap nights out, awkward romantic moments and the rest…
