Let me say at the outset that I like this debut single from Yorkshire band, The Harringtons.
But (you could just tell there was a ‘but’ coming, couldn’t you?) for once I am actually struggling to write much about a CD I have been sent. You see, for all The Harringtons seem to be a tight unit, full of good intentions and quite obviously boast an excellent work ethic judging by the number of gigs they have played and ‘live’ reviews they have received, it is difficult to see what will make them stand out from many other similar bands.
I don’t mean this in a derogatory way, but this is pretty standard indie-guitar fare. The vocals are strong and clear. Thankfully they don’t fall into the common trap of sounding either twee or pretentious, so that’s a big plus point. The guitar hook is catchy and the bass-line and drumming solid and driving.
There’s not much else I can say really. It’s good enough that I have no qualms in recommending you check the band out on my Space at least. The other tracks that are on their player are also good, professionally executed songs. And I’m sure that in a ‘live’ environment, these lads will give the audience a very exciting evening.
I just feel that – and here goes with the cheesy summary – that they need to step out their comfort zone a little… before they become set in their ways.
