It’s coming… it’s finally coming and I will not shut up about it.
If Oasis fans have The Beatles to thank for their favourite band of all time, emo and pop punk kids have The Get Up Kids to thank. The likes of Blink 182, Taking Back Sunday, and Fall Out Boy wouldn’t exist in their current form without the Kansas 5 piece – and those bands have said it themselves. The classic album, ‘Something To Write Home About’, adorned with two robots (which I proudly have tattooed to me) turns 25 years old soon and they’re coming across here to celebrate.
Previously, TGUK have played smaller venues in Scotland. They broke a hiatus by playing The Cathouse and have never really graduated beyond that size in Scotland. What’s more shocking is that singer/guitarist Matt Pryor played a solo gig in Stereo to about 5 people once. That’s like John Lennon coming to town and no one seeing him. I’m still seething.
This time round the Scottish date is in the now heavily respected St Luke’s where many bands who have been influenced by TGUK have played before them. You can expect to hear ‘Something To Write Home About’ played in its entirety so there’s going to be tears for ‘I’ll Catch You’ and you just know I’ll be screaming “come tomorrow I’ll be on my way back home…!” with everyone else.
This is going to be super special and anyone who’s ever had a floppy fringe owes it to themselves to turn up for it.
