Debut EP from Glasgow band The Gap Year Riot bears a striking resemblance to the style employed in recent albums by Funeral for a Friend and Lost Prophets, no surprise then seeing as all 3 bands worked with the same producer.
The band is very competent at this style and all 4 tracks are very easy to listen to but that’s about as far as it goes. What they are missing is the standout songs that the aforementioned bands have. Funeral for a Friend had ‘Into Oblivion’ and Lost Prophets had ‘Rooftops’, two songs that you couldn’t fail to love from the first time you heard them.
To quote some of the lyrics “You’ve got that look and that style I’m looking for” and if you love this style of music and want to add more to your collection then you will probably like The Gap Year Riot. If you just want the best of this style then you want the big catchy songs and The Gap Year Riot don’t have that …..Yet.
Hi Gordon,
I have to wonder have you actually heard the band?
Tracks such as Stop Talking Start Listening must surely be a stand out song its great! Everytime I here this band they are getting stronger producing tracks that you just have to sing along to…superb!
