With all the sanitised, so-called rock bands we get subjected to these days, listening to The Elvis Suicide is a tremendously reassuring experience. Forget about flashy production values and expensive haircuts, this is straight-up rockin’: hard, fast and sweaty! ‘Surveying the Young Professionals’ is a short, powerful injection of sleaze-rock bombast that sounds like the Stooges having a drunken bar brawl with the Pixies. Meanwhile, ‘If I Don’t Run’ gets out the blocks quickly with urgent drumming and a driving bass-line before giving way to a rollicking sing-along. There’s nothing fancy about The Elvis Suicide; they simply plug-in, turn-up the dial and play their hearts out. And the results are pretty damn good!
