The Dykeenies, Scotland’s premier guitar pop merchants of recent years, kick off the promo work for their sophomore long player this month with the release of an exclusive free download through their website, which is available now, to all and sundry. While such practices have become commonplace, this track is a treat, which bodes well for the album.
Album number 1 lit up the summer last year, with burning riffs and unselfconscious, assured melodies and playing. One wonders if we can expect album number 2 to do likewise for us this year? Or, will The Dykeenies, to use a dread phrase, have “progressed”? Will they have remembered to put in all the bits we liked last time?
The band will be on tour throughout this month, in preparation for the album’s release. Presumably also, this will get the adrenalin flowing for later on in the year, when the album comes out and the real promo treadmill starts to bite. But these guys are made of stern stuff and should take to this with glee.
