After a relatively quiet period it is a cause for celebration to have some new recordings by The Creeping Ivies and this new E.P. gives plenty to celebrate with three short, sharp and sweet shocks to the system.
‘Bye Bye Baby’ sees The Creeping Ivies at their most pop with a crisp, clean guitar line, sharp rhythms and a beautiful vocal embellished with flourishes of sweet keyboards. It is also an absolute renewal of my faith in the joy and beauty of simplicity and economy in music. Every note, word and beat has a place and the result is a gorgeous, catchy cool tune that hits you in the heart and hips. ‘Only The Moon’ follows in a similar vein, primal and infectious with a riff and rhythm to die for complete with handclaps, sounding smart and sassy and hitting the spot.
‘The Witch House’ straddles the ground between The Creeping Ivies Mk. 1 and the new look three piece with its raw garage punk meets The Brill Building sound. Each of the three songs on this E.P. clock in at the three minute mark and are as catchy as hell and near damn perfect.
I was nervous about the new look Creeping Ivies but shouldn’t have been and they are back with a bang still making brilliant songs that would soundtrack any rock ‘n’ roll party worth going to. The Creeping Ivies – different but still the same.
