Remember in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, when the little girl eats the ‘3 course meal chewing gum’? ‘She Was Always Cool’ resembles that bit of Wrigleys; it offers different up a variety of styles of music in a bite-sized little tune. There’s a hint of Primal Screams ‘Rocks’ about the drumbeat, which gives way to a Johnny Borrell-esque acoustic singalong, before powering into catchy, rhythmic beat that takes the full record up a notch before bringing it back off the boil.
But for all its genre-jumping it’s still just like the chewing gum, it just isn’t fulfilling enough to keep you satisfied for long.
