A brand new urban festival in Glasgow – exciting.
Due to extreme time pressures and ongoing “work” (tit uplift didn’t really uplift, too much information readers, sorry) this will be a Twit-esque review, yet again, will have to at some point do War and Peas on someone and that someone will be… probably someone quite shit.
So Tenement TV organised this – much respect, took some strong and firm bollocks, young men, Betty salutes you, did consort with them on Sauch St fags/beggars/crossroads a couple of times during their mobile calls and other crises, guys BM was the one in the tutu, only joking readers, have given up the dress-up due to the chaffing, OMFG…
To the music… (’bout time – Ed)
BM caught Vladimir, sought them out early doors after their TITP performance really put her nips on high alert (these are the Betty radars so this is allowed, it’s music appreciation FFS you old perverts). Had to leave before their almost already legendary cover of ‘Born Slippy’ but the first few songs sounded great in Broadcast – ever onwards guys…
Later in Broadcast it was TeenCanteen – an all-girl group and also new Betty faves, they have an edge and the songs to go with it – too many people taking photos and not enough people dancing but again, the future awaits, with decent management they deserve to be huge – not joking if any of you think BM is, some of the best lyrics from a new band in ages… seriously.
Model Aeroplanes at ABC2 had a boisterous crowd, knew a couple of riffs and could do well, is all BM is saying about this one.
Stayed around at ABC2 for Vukovi and in front of a paltry crowd (where the flip were the rest of the audience, having their fish suppers at this point?) they unleashed the most original and effective barrage of sound BM has probably ever witnessed for a first hearing of a new band (ok so they’ve done some dates before but not heard by moi). Cannae really think of comparisons, but Led Zep fronted by Shirley Manson might be in the area – defo one to watch and would pay good money, no you are misunderstanding BM here – new band of the year so far, and not even BM’s normal cup of… you get the idea, and time is short.
Back to Broadcast for Hector Bizerk, already making waves and who would have thunk (SM ref here for those with anoraks, possibly not with beards) that Scotch hiphop could make such a mark in 2014 – not me. A rabble and poss Barney rubble raising set, good humoured and inclusive, and the treble-tempo rap sections are, well just really good, and (cliche alert) tell it like it is, in great detail. Another combo BM would pay money to service, sorry, be of service to.
Went over to KTWWH on a recommendation for the last band there and they were ok – a bit of shoegazing legacy, from BM sources (not quotable) they might be signed to Atlantic and managed by Ignition but so fligging what, they were ok but no charisma (you won’t be reading this anyway guys, you will be in Shitsville Ohio on that first 32 date tour) so don’t see this working too well – so BM hoisted the miniskirt back above the VPL (got to make an effort) and got the last bus, long day in the heels but need, and a few, neds, must.
Overall great value (not me!), saw a couple of fab bands and good luck to Tenement TV next year, things can only get better.
