TeenCanteen

Back in 2012 this was the first track that the West of Scotland all-female four-piece combo TeenCanteen (Carla, Chloe, Sita and Debs) recorded. Their debut album ‘This Is How It Starts’ was never fully released and this track has been re-released by LNFG as a prelude to the full album release in August. The track actually appeared in a different version on their 2016 album ‘Say It All With A Kiss’.

The song is still a staple of songwriter Carla Easton’s solo gigs and is a fully-fledged anthem – this early version sounds more tentative, like the band were still finding their musical feet and self-confidence. It is a charming slice of girl-group indiepop, with acoustic/electric guitar, synth, drums and bass, along with a lead vocal from Carla and harmonies from other band members.

It is also insanely catchy and channels pop greats from Motown through post-punk and Abba to Altered Images…

The group went on to record and play with more bit, and Carla’s solo work has been astonishing, but it is worth remembering that it all began with this…sublime!
