Since the Cocteau Twins’ split a quarter of a century ago, frontwoman Liz Fraser’s distinctive vocal has been heard only sporadically.
However, Fraser has re-emerged teaming up with Damon Reece, percussionist with Massive Attack – whose top 10 single ‘Teardrop’ featured Fraser’s best-known post-Cocteaus work.
Fraser’s voice darts around the clear and slightly mystical lyrics – ‘Apples’, the album’s centrepiece has a slightly proggy feel, while former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett guests, accompanying Reese’s trademark thudding beats and bass on ‘Underwater’.
Initially a sub-30 minute download, this collection is now expanded via remixes from the likes of John Grant and Gwenno to a full album.
However, fans, both old and new, will feel there’s room for plenty more.
