Discipline: Heal Thyself, Pt. II (Fresh Baked)

It is a true refreshment to hear someone so in love with the idea of singer-songwriter as protester and voice of a generation and who isn’t so in love with what Aztec Camera once so memorably termed “The Crying Scene”.

Page’s individual personality is stamped right the way through the album. This is a man throwing down the reins and gleefully running free with his own voice, tearing the meaning free from every nerve ending, forcing the vernacular into every phrase.

This makes the album, from such sparse beginnings, a true and rich excitement. Songs such as ‘White Noise’ and ‘Where Do You Stand’ showcase a writer and performer fully prepared to stand up for their emotions and beliefs.

This can result sometimes in over-emoting but those occasional weaknesses are easily forgivable with the quality of song writing on display here.
