Folk music has long been the voice of protest, but crossed with bluegrass it can brush shoulders with America’s country scene and a diametrically opposed political viewpoint.
The band’s previous releases have been more conceptual, including ‘The Chuck Norris Project’, based around film titles of the right-wing actor.
However, the Edinburgh-based act have gone back to basics, while taking on Celtic influences, lyrically pursuing the political themes currently embroiling that nation.
‘What Would You Give For A Leader With Soul’ is ambiguous enough to work across parties but this is an album railing against social injustice and corrupt politics of every hue, while remaining commendably and tunefully true to its roots.
