Sister John’s new single is out now and precedes a new album ‘I Am By Day’, out in May.
This is a soulful and reflective track which sees them using synth for maybe the first time, to very good effect. The trademark slightly skewed Americana vibe is still in place though, and singer Amanda McKeown’s vocals are timeless, as always… If anything this sound more like The Velvet Underground’s later work than anything contemporary.
The Glasgow-based combo use some great guitar strumming, plus a nifty two part solo towards the end, to emote the passing of time, maybe some lockdown thoughts, emphasising what is important to hold onto and what isn’t.
If this is anything to go by then the album should be well worth looking forward to…
