Space To Breathe is the kind of record suited to quiet nights with a cup of tea, Admittedly, it’s the kind of music you’ll hear playing from the listening post of the new-age kind of shops you go to buy joss sticks from and certainly something you need to be in a relaxed mood for.
Nixon makes ambient, guitar oriented electronic, occasionally with a Celtic feel and throughout this CD, he proves that he is an excellent guitar playing – Beyond The Horizon, sounds like a cross between ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’ and ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’, his style definitely owing a lot Clapton and Gilmour, while Gonna Keep Movin recalls fellow Belfast boy Rory Gallagher. Elsewhere, Caribbean Sunrise blends reggae rhythms with his string bending guitar style. Halfway through Utopia the mood is temporarily broken but that aside, Space To Breathe is a very enjoyable listen. It would be interesting to hear Nixon’s guitar alongside real musicians though.
