Lock up your daughters, the jewel in Glasgow’s live crown release their best track to date – and have a suitably shades-on-indoors video to accompany it. Slithering in on a wave of sleazy guitar and muffled, menacing vocals from David Wilson – they conjure up a world of sticky floors and dirty misdeeds.
Admittedly, you won’t win any prizes for spotting the references – there’s more than a whiff of the Jesus and Mary Chain, and the twisted aesthetic of the Cramps isn’t disguised either – but She’s Hit are more than the sum of their influential parts.
It’s light on lyrics, but doped up on attitude. “Shimmer, shimmer into the light” is about the only discernible thing here, sounding like an invitation to something dirty, which I’m sure they meant it to. Buzz-saw surf guitars thrash around in the sea of feedback, it’s a more than convincing stab at their beloved garage rock. Straight-up rock’n’roll in a Topman leather jacket, when their ideas catch up with their record collections, you get the feeling they’ll be a phenomenon.
