This album from Scottish artist Panda was released back in March, but better late than never…
It is a suite of nine instrumental pieces which draw on found sounds, ambient noise and other sources to make sometimes soothing but sometimes unsettling noise pictures, if you like.
There are some nods to BBC Radiophonic Workshop and also to ‘Glory Box’ etc but really here the artist is out on his own, creating sonic landscapes. The tracks are fairly inscrutable, with anonymous lettered names like ‘(3114)’ and ‘PcT’, which may mean something to their creator but who knows.
Speaking of ‘(3114)’, it does at times sound like an outtake from a horror movie, but the next couple of tracks reference more natural phenomena so calm the mood down a bit – the album is always intriguing and a great piece of work which would work well with some visual affects.
