There’s been a lot of noise recently about this artist so BM decided to investigate. This is the title track of the second album from Rebecca Taylor, aka Self Esteem, formerly of the band Slow Club and based in Yorkshire.
It is really quite something – confessional lyrics over a banging soundtrack, along with some very strange noises, it references dub, indie and pure pop, all in a few minutes.
Is this Yorkshire’s answer to Lady Gaga – kind of, as the track drips with explosive talent… BM missed her recently show at the unlikely venue of Glasgow Audio (there is such a pile-up of rescheduled gigs that BM would not be surprised if we had Dua Lipa at Ivory Black’s, but anyway…); however, Self Esteem has cemented herself as an audience and critics’ darling, and if this is any evidence she certainly deserves it…
