Salute Mary’s debut EP sees this Edinburgh band pay homage to their influences. These are largely nineties grunge-era bands – the acts they mention in their press release include Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana, though the band I hear the most are Pearl Jam.
This release shows them to have worked hard on honing their act, and they’re very much playing together as a band. Whilst these ears are rather weary of most of the grunge scene (having been through it nearly twenty years ago) this is not to detract that this band have made a very coherent release and deserve to do well.
