Sacred Paws sound like an act that is in a hurry to get somewhere, and when you try to get a handle on their sound, you realise that they could be heading anywhere.
They may be currently based in Glasgow, but they are from sounding like a typical Glaswegian duo, whatever that would sound like anyway.
You get six songs that zip by in a frenetic manner, all powered through with glorious melodies and harmonies at every turn. It’s a sprightly and optimistic collection of songs, with at times a quite tribal dance style comes to the fore, at other times, the sharp and clipped guitar fills delve into your ear while showing no indication of coming back out.
Shirley is a highlight, the sense of increased pace from some of the vocals adds a dynamic flourish, heightened by the busy guitar line, but with all of the tracks buzzing around in a similar manner, it’s all of a fairly decent quality before Ice Pop turns the pace down ever so slightly, levelling out the release in a pleasant and gentle manner before you flip the vinyl over or click the button to take you back to the start.
With barely time to catch a breath, and certainly not a wasted moment, it does sound as though Sacred Paws are going places.
