Hampshire Thrash crew Ruins Of Earth’s debut EP exerts sheer force, energy and passion. That’s clearly apparent on first listen, especially to the first full track ‘Darkest Skies.’
Prior to this EP, they have toured relentlessly throughout the UK in over 150 shows, bagging tour slots with the likes of Viatrophy, Shadow Law, Osmium and Plague of Ashitaka. Not ones to rest on their laurels, they hit the road again in the autumn.
‘Ashes of the Ocean’ was surprisingly for me, a melodic affair, with guitar talent from members Daniel Smith and Andrew Wilson as well as bassist Fred McCauley. Throaty vocals are delivered by a possessed Colin Russel and authentic metal drumming is courtesy of Thomas Brooker.
The journey is short and sweet and leaves you looking forward to a full album in due course. The tracks would not be out of place in an alternative music club such as The KrazyHouse in Liverpool or the Cathouse in Glasgow. You can even imagine tracks ‘Darkest Skies’ and ‘Ashes of the Ocean’ being used as a wrestler’s entrance music.
‘Extinction’ has the coolest guitar solos that would make the likes of Iron Maiden proud.
A pure assault on the senses, this band have their music polished as any other metal band going. Having only been around since 2009, they have done well, establishing themselves high in the UK metal scene. Ones definitely to keep an eye on.
