‘Midnight Wine’ opens the debut album of Rose Parade. From the off there’s a relaxed vibe that’s playful too, teaming bass and guitar chords with percussion. ‘Awake Tonight’ follows with as attitude much the same, chilled yet trendy.
The real poignancy of the latter track of ‘Friday Night Fight’ see the Rose Parade work into their stride with catchy beats and rhythms paced to precision. Driving yet delicate, the track shows focus on the skills the band has with their instruments to provide a pleasant interlude to their album. What’s more, there is nothing overly pretentious about the way the band have made up and executed it, making it all the more pleasant to listen to and keeps their listeners interested.
For a real gem, head straight to the penultimate track on the album, ‘A Better Pill to Swallow.’ With its folky vibes and a gradual climax that will make you smile, it’s a winner for the band, but shouldn’t have been kept until the back end of the album to be heard.
The benefits of the band is that they’re fresh and simple, there’s no air of arrogance or prestige to weight them down. It makes you want to listen to them over again as its more than obvious its more about the music than the fame with Rose Parade.
