James Lavelle saw Radkey’s debut show in June of last year. So blown away was he by their performance, he not only booked them for the Meltdown Festival he was then curating, he was also moved to bring UNKLE out of retirement hibernation for the first time in four years and work his own devilish magic on this little ditty.
The result is a spectacularly moody few minutes, a kind of aural film noir in miniature. Lavelle draws out the track’s gorgeous bassline, really making it work for its time in your ears. Undercutting it is the inspired use of some very serrated synth patterns, which jump out and kick you, welcomingly, in the stomach, when you least expect it.
