Even if you ignore the fact that they look like We Are Scientists if you were to trade Mr Moustache for Heath Ledger during his blonde years, and the brilliance of the tiger masks they give out at gigs, Pull Tiger Tail are great. “Aren’t you sick of being automatic?”, they sing in a song that quite appropriate jumps around between pretty quiet bits, big loud bits, and bits somewhere in between.
The sound is, for the most part, a mish-mash of all the things bands these days are supposed to sound like – to the non-indie-kid ear, this might be indistinguishable from The Sunshine Underground or The Maccabees. But the things that will make this stand out to the indie-kid ear mainly revolve around the imaginative drumming and the beautiful contrast between smooth and staccato vocals.
This is a gorgeous, catchy and fun tune, but it feels like there’s something more to it. A kind of unexplainable depth. Whatever it is, it’s left us with the urge to check their Myspace every five minutes for news of when we might be able to expect an album.
