A firm favourite for a good few years now and it is great to see Public Service Broadcasting take another total change of direction with the lead single from their forthcoming, and fourth, album ‘Bright Magic’.
It may not however be surprising (given their past work) that this new track is basically an homage to German electronic pioneers Kraftwerk (and BM really hopes they have asked the remaining robots from the original combo for permission to use that wee guitar hook (not a sample, mind), otherwise they may be on the receiving end of the mother of all lawsuits)… Having said that, BM understands Coldplay asked and got permission from the Dusseldorf mafia for the ‘Speed of Light’ sample…
Anyway, this is a great slice of expansive electronica, with the usual PSB attention to detail, although no sampled or found footage – it is just a good pop track, and shows their versatility, with the vocals sung in German by chanteuse Eera. Maybe this is a turn against some of the “Best of British” early stuff after the ongoing disaster of Brexit… or maybe not.
