The second album from one Joe Power – Edinburgh-based and with family connections to Archie Fisher and The Singing Kettle, no less! – is 14 tracks in length.
But is it any good? On first listen it is definitely original, mixing so many genres of music and samples into a real cocktail of burbling electronica.
Tracks like ‘Recall (Throat Aches)’ channel The Avalanches in the liberalism of the samples, all the way from “found sounds” to bleepism – this guy must spend a lot of time in charity shops…
It is a well thought-out and complex piece of work which also recalls DJ Shadow’s ‘Entroducing’ all those years ago, but there are definite Scottish tropes of “local” Edinburgh samples and some Gaelic as well…
Available on Bandcamp, suffice to say that a purchase will be made (people have to get paid FFS!) for some further listening pleasure – and some live dates in 2022 would be very nice indeed…
