Scottish combo Gordon and Lily, formerly L-Space and currently PCPQ, are known for electronic or “dreampop” music but this track is the stepping-off point for a very interesting turn of events.
It is the first track from a collaborative album with some of Scotland’s premier rap artists (‘Music For Hypercapitalists’, coming out in mid-August). It is also a fundraiser for the mighty Refuweegee charity.
This track features Edinburgh-based rapper Conscious Route, who after an electronic introduction, launches into a deep and impassioned stream of post-apocalyptic imaging of the world in 2050, which does not sound too good. The electronic backing combines perfectly with the paranoid tone of the vocals, and the lyrics. The raps lines conjure up images of cyborgs, racism, corruption and Richard Branson certainly gets it in the neck…
It words certainly pack a punch but the music is also great, and recalls some Massive Attack, which is some complement…
Nightmarish, but full of humanity, if this is anything to go by, the album will be great…
