It’s often said that instrumental music soundtracks the film in our heads.
In which case, it may be welcome that this EP is more of a short that doesn’t outstay its welcome. That’s not to say it‘s not a pleasurable listen, but do we have room in our dreams for a concept piece about a bunny soft toy that goes on a rampage?
Indeed, the stabbing keyboards on ‘Milo Lives’ may well be spelling out the Morse Code for ‘HELPPP MEEEE’.
‘When We Were Us’ is more downbeat, its pulsating synths evoking a doomier Chvrches as well as hints of Hallowe’en – The Exorcist – the royalty of horror soundtracks. ‘Depart/Arrive/Depart’, evoking a brisk train journey to the underworld, is a dancefloor banger the KLF would be proud to set fire to, while ‘Satan Instead’ has us conjuring up our cartoon bunny in videogame form, ravaging a pixelated wasteland.
‘Abandoned Milos’ again spits out what may be a distress signal from a dying planet before the swelling ‘Cycle of Vengeance’ leads us on a sinister dance of death that we’re only too happy to take.
