Good god, Johnny Lynch has been productive this year – these two new tracks come from next year’s ‘Island Family’ album, from which the title track ‘Natural Successor‘ has already been released.
The first is ‘Island Family’, as weird and wonderful as Pictish gets, with battering electronic percussion and a chorus which sounds like some of kind of cult mantra, although in the nicest possible way… The outro sounds like an ice-cream van in hell – oh well…
The second track ‘Melody Something’ is deep and dark, with treated vocals and a very disconcerting atmosphere – the mood however is upbeat and the lyrics are even a bit homely, however the main chorus kicks in and we are talking lush sounds, recalling something like The Avalanches vs The Flaming Lips… The production is wonderful, throwing everything in but the kitchen sink, still sounding catchy and down to earth…
How does he do it? Who knows, but these are some more corkers from Mr Lynch… more power to his elbow!
