Penfriend is the newish moniker of Bristol’s Laura Kidd, formerly known as She Makes War.
She has been very creative during lockdown with regular podcasts, spoken word and interviews. The first track is an interview, however the other three are songs, as follows…
‘Seventeen’ is one of a brace of new tracks released under the Penfriend cover and it is a lovely, messy and nostalgia-inducing track about times past (“dial back those days”), just voice and thrashy guitar – lovely.
‘Cancel Your Hopes’ continues in a similar vein, covering such subjects as corporate folks, the need for supportive friends (well that is what BM took out of it anyway…).
Finally, ‘Gotta Get Outa This’ has more thrashy chords on the guitar, documenting the need for escape, from whatever situation… (“drowning in yesterday’s tears…”).
There is a full album on the way, and BM for one can’t wait…
