A prolific solo artist, Glasgow-born McAulay has completed more than 20 full-length releases in as many years.
He also records as part of experimental rock act Smackvan, whose soundscapes occasionally influence the backing for his delicately crafted tales of ordinary life.
Bandmate Michael Feeney crops up to offer backing vocals on ‘In The Night’, while distorted guitars propel the Eno-esque instrumental ‘Driving North’.
And while ‘Beyond Your Hand’s synths and multi-tracked vocals gently pulse in the background, in the main it’s a very stripped-back 13 track selection, leaving plenty of space for the singer’s distinct Scots brogue to draw the listener into his world.
