While many people were going in the opposite direction to see Calvin Harris, and the queues for Olivia Rodrigo incredible, BM headed into town for her favourite Techno/beats mentalists…
First up was Moni Jitchell, comprising just guitar and drums, and possibly former headline act members – they gave the audience a pounding set of brutal noise, and BM much enjoyed this – apologies for a lack of song titles and names but if they are this good the next time then they be worthy of a full review.
West Lothian goths Gravelle were on next and again apologies for no track references but this was a majestic and very confident set, the two core members rotating on lead vocals and giving an uncompromising but still very catchy set which probably referenced The Cure more than anything – nothing wrong with that, and they do plough their own furrows very well indeed – musically spot on, BM has a lot of time for them and they are going into the studio to record first album as we speak…
Outblinker have been criminally ignored by what remains of the Scottish music press (hullo – is there anybody out there?) but they played for their lives tonight, a new drummer blooded in a succession of outstanding tracks (BM did not get the setlist, sounded like old, some new} – the potent mixture of live guitar, drums and keyboards elevated them above all rivals on this occasion and BM would go far to say that they are the best live band operating in Glasgow in 2022.
So suck on that…
