Released this week, The OK Social Club are back with a new single entitled ‘Threads’. Twelve months after the release of their debut album, ‘Nothing in Common’, the Edinburgh based four-piece are aiming to pick up where they left off. Their debut album generated three singles and a surge of support from all four corners of the UK. Judging by the first single from their new release, that support should continue.
With a diverse array of influences on board, the band have always played to their strengths – guitar driven melodies and strong song-writing. ‘Threads’ carries on that tradition by opening with a simple guitar line before launching into a quirky little melody. However, don’t be fooled by the seemingly simplistic hooks that are on display here. There’s much texture and depth within the song and the band as a whole.
The chorus is, of course, where most of the impact lies and this one lends a rockier edge to proceedings but it’s in Raff Eragona’s nostalgic yet always enthusiastic vocal delivery that the song is sold. It’s hard to not want to sing along when these guys are playing.
The Ok Social Club are trying to bring back the type of music the charts haven’t really seen much of in recent times, here’s hoping they manage it.
